"dwc:fieldNotes": "NOTEBY J.Longino: OTS field problem on Azteca colony initiation in Cecropia. Just below Stuckeys farm. We described the contents of Cecropia stalks in 4 clumps of Cecropia. One clump was loaded with founding queens, up to 15/chamber. The other 3 clumps had many fewer, usually one queen/chamber, maximum 3, and many empty chambers. Mixed species aggregations of queens were common. Orange queens [xanthochroa] were by far the most abundant, but there was significant heterogeneity between clumps in the proportions of the two species [xanthochroa and constructor]. We never found open holes in the chambers unless there were workers. We found a colony with workers and abundant brood in one chamber, and there were 2 physogastric black queens [constructor]. A large scarab had attacked the tops of some stalks, chewing large holes in the sides of chambers and through the septa. In a stalk with an active colony, we found 3 adjacent chambers with the remains of a Crematogaster nigropilosa colony. There were abundant dead remains, including many males. A parasitic wasp was found in one chamber, and some maggot-like larvae were found in others [Conoaxima]. These may be parasite larvae, judging from later Cecropia notes. #1: from chamber with two physogastric queens. #2: possibly from one chamber. #3: sample of queens from clumps, plus parasitic wasp.",
