It was actually impossible, as I found by experiment, to see any part of the nest from without excepting by first lifting the swinging earth laden roots. Although I was carefully looking for the nest which I suspected was somewhere near I should never have found it had the bird stayed on. The female showed much solicitude, tumbling about on the ground almost at my feet and simulating lameness. I shot and skinned the female [MCZ 204609]. There were two males singing in a small covert where I found the nest. Neither however came near it. The female was perfectly silent with all her demonstrations. The locality was a [illegible] of white cedar and spruce woods on the lake shore and adjoining the road, at the bridge over the brook. [illegible] looking in the earthy roots for nests of this bird, I have lately found two others which I think are to be [illegible] to it. One of these was evidently a last years nest, the other was apparently new but some loose earth had fallen onto it and it seemed deserted. |",

"description": "The Museum of Comparative Zoology was founded in 1859 on the concept that collections are an integral and fundamental component of zoological research and teaching. This more than 150-year-old commitment remains a strong and proud tradition for the MCZ.\n\nThe present-day MCZ contains over 21-million specimens in ten research collections which comprise one of the world's richest and most varied resources for studying the diversity of life. The museum serves as the primary repository for zoological specimens collected by past and present Harvard faculty-curators, staff and associates conducting research around the world.\n\nAs a premier university museum and research institution, the specimens and their related data are available to researchers of the scientific and museum community.",
