Sampled 600 ft. upstream from the bridge, beginning ca. 25 ft. from the bridge; up to release site below the railroad trestle bridge. Seine used 18X. Many wide, deep, and fast riffles and many wide, shallow, and fast riffles; pools at the bends. Fewer fish collected than in 2007. Large female Central Stoneroller; one stocked Brown Trout ( 211 mm TL) collected. White Sucker absent. Rock Bass, Saffron Shiner, and Fantail Darter are not yet established; Largemouth Bass and Black Crappie are migrants from Lake Junaluska. New for site - Rock Bass, Black Crappie, Mottled Sculpin, Warpaint Shiner, River Chub, Saffron Shiner, Greenfin Darter, Fantail Darter, and Tuckasegee Darter. Site \"Not Rated\" because 3 of the introduced species are not established and 2 species are lake migrants. If all 17 species were included site would rate \"Good\"; if 5 species were deleted site would rate \"Good-Fair\".",

"description": "The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' Ichthyology Collection contains approximately 1.3 million specimens (110,000+ lots). It is one of the largest and most complete regional collections in the United States and currently meets the criteria of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists for recognition as a National Center Ichthyological Collection. Founded in the late 1800s, the collection consists of approximately 75% North Carolina material, although 48 states, 42 countries, and more than 1948 species are represented. Important recent acquisitions include large collections from Duke, North Carolina State, Stockton State, and Western Carolina universities, Mars Hill College, and the University of North Carolina’s Institute of Marine Sciences. The collection houses fluid-preserved specimens, cleared and stained material, skeletons, tissues for molecular analyses, and all supporting legacy data.",
