"dwc:locationRemarks": "Seined from just above the dumped rocks below the bridge to ca. 600 feet upstream following first the main creek which quickly broke up into 3'-4' wide stream lets (more accurately, these streamlets joined together), and then these broke down into 2'-3' wide streamlets, We followed one of these streams up, then came part way back down (toward bridge) on another stream, then went with current in one we had seined a bit earlier. Students set the net in the creek and two shocked into it. Weather: clear, sunny, calm, low humidity; Air Temperature: 63° F; Water Temperature: 64° F; pH: 6.0; Water Color: light-medium brown (tannin stained); Flow: moderate; General Habitat: shallow winding stream comprised of joining smaller streamlets in lowland deciduous forest; Shore: mature deciduous lowland forest with many branches and roots + other smaller obstructions in the water; Vegetation: golden club common in shallow water thoughout, much exposed tree roots; Bottom: sand, with little weak gravel, some detritus in pockets, dug out banks in cr. Bends",

"description": "The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' Ichthyology Collection contains approximately 1.3 million specimens (110,000+ lots). It is one of the largest and most complete regional collections in the United States and currently meets the criteria of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists for recognition as a National Center Ichthyological Collection. Founded in the late 1800s, the collection consists of approximately 75% North Carolina material, although 48 states, 42 countries, and more than 1948 species are represented. Important recent acquisitions include large collections from Duke, North Carolina State, Stockton State, and Western Carolina universities, Mars Hill College, and the University of North Carolina’s Institute of Marine Sciences. The collection houses fluid-preserved specimens, cleared and stained material, skeletons, tissues for molecular analyses, and all supporting legacy data.",
