There were scattered Pachycondyla impressa workers around. I tried to follow one that had a Tabanid, but I seemed to disturb it, and it would constantly hide motionless under leaves. A single Pheidole worker [cf. anastasii] found the bait at 0625hrs. At 0631 many arrived suddenly from a nest ~1m away. The nest was in a short section of stick that was rotten, lying on the ground. The queen was inside this stick. I collected all I could of this colony; queen, majors, minors, brood. After this nest was disrupted, the bait was left abandoned for a short while. Then a group of Pheid. C [cf. pugnax] recruited from another nest a short distance from the first. This nest was subterranean, in the mud bank. In the center of the mud clump was also the entrance to a Pachycondyla impressa nest. The P. impressa nest went horizontally back into the bank, a gallery about 2cm broad and 1cm high. Similar Pheid. were later seen attacking live prey, a millipede. Many workers were attacking a millipede much larger than they.",
