"dwc:fieldNotes": "NOTEBY D. McKenna, NOTEDATE 23-Aug-99: Hi Jack, Sorry for the long delay in my forwarding the collection information to you for the Leptanilloid (sp?) ants. I may have sent information with the ants when I originally sent them to you. Since I'm not sure what I sent (I was working with memory, not my notes which were not with me at the time), please disregard any previous collection information, and use the following taken directly from my field notes. I collected at least 27 specimens of an ant designated \"?-No Eyes\". One individual was particularly light yellow in color. This individual was stored separately, and was returned to Dr. Greg Murray with all other specimens in 1996. The ants were collected in a leaf litter sample at 1300m in the Bajo del Tigre Reserve on 6/22/95 at 7:13 am. The canopy was not well-developed above the site. A small \"grove\" of Cecropia grew alongside the trail. I collected the litter sample within 10 m (if memory serves me correctly) of the Cecropia grove, on the right side of the trail (when walking downward in elevation-I was not oriented well enough to give you a compass direction from the trail). Associated with the Leptanilloidea in the leaf litter sample were 1 individual of a species of Hypoponera, 1 Europalothrix, 1 ant larva, and a single individual that looked like, but may not have been a species of Wasmannia. There were other arthropod taxa I will not elaborate upon here. There were 92 arthropod individuals in the .5m square leaf litter sample, including all ants. These individuals represented 35 morphospecies. Unfortunately, I returned all specimens (in alcohol) to Greg Murray in 1996, and most if not all may have been destroyed, although I do not know. The leaf portion of the litter sample (that which fell through a 1cm grid when vigorously sifted) weighed 1.4 kg. The soil and decomposing litter that fell through the grid weighed 345 grams. It was this portion that I carefully looked through under a dissecting scope, removing and sorting all leaf litter invertebrates encountered by morphospecies. I collected another .5m square leaf litter sample on 7/5/95 within 25m of this site at 1300m. In it I collected 1 Solenopsis, 1 Pheidole, 5 unidentified specimens of a species of Myrmecinae, and 5 individuals of a species of Hypoponera. There were 200 arthropod individuals in this sample, representing 51 morphospecies. I should mention that the altimeter I used to determine sampling elevation was not very accurate. I found it to vary from day to day (even when properly recalibrated) by 75m or more in elevation.",
