Open ponderosa pine forest and weedy prairie openings on steep slopes of NW–SE-trending ridges and ravines, with tall, E and W-facing granitic cliffs and boulders on upper slopes of W 2/3 of site and tall, W-facing dolomitic Mississippian Pahasapa Limestone cliffs and small boulders on upper slopes of E 1/3 of site. Forest understory open to scrubby, with Amelanchier sp, Cercocarpus montanus, Juniperus communis, J. scopulorum, Rhus aromatica, Ribus aureum, and Toxicodendron rydbergii variously common on slopes; and Acer negundo and Quercus macrocarpa common in ravines. Soil rocky with granitic and limestone rocks, plus scattered boulders of Deadwood Formation sandstone and metamorphics.",
