Longino, NOTEDATE 25-Aug-10: rainforest; trees along river margin; scattered Gesomyrmex workers in foliage of low tree; nest in about 3cm dia. live stem of tree, about 4m high; entire nest collected and given to Christian Peeters for detailed description; Phil Ward identified tree as Saraca declinata (Fabaceae); I have some material, Chris Wilson took 6 workers and 1 major, and Christian was going to count the rest for whole nest contents. I have 5 small workers, 1 intermediate worker, 1 major worker, 1 major worker pupa, 1 intermediate pupa, 3 small pupae, 1 prepupa, 1 large larva, 1 small larva.. NOTEBY J. Longino, NOTEDATE 3-Jun-11: Christian Peters sent this info in email 3 Feb 11: The nest consisted of: 8 soldiers 16 intermediates 78 minors 41 pupae 5 prepupae 100-110 larvae 31 eggs Absence of a queen suggests that this nest belonged to a polydomous colony (polydomy is compatible with my observations in Thailand). However there were many eggs! One soldier had a swollen gaster - dissection revealed that her ovaries were active, with 3 large oocytes. No sign of spermatheca. Trophic eggs?",
