"dcterms:description": "i took this photo on the nature trail in elena gallegos park in albuquerque, nm. the best match i could find was the arizona woodpecker, although it is not supposed to reside as far north as albuquerque. i'm going to post the photo anyway, in hopes someone can confirm. this is an adult male ladder-backed woodpecker, picoides scalaris. (the arizona woodpecker has a solid brown back.) i can hardly tell you how much better this is than my attempts, now removed from the article. —jerryfriedman 22:44, 13 october 2007 (utc) photo was taken june 30, 2007 with a nikon d40, 55-200 mm f/4-5.6g ed af-s dx zoom-nikkor lens, at 200 mm focal length. i was pretty far away, so the resolution is not good. probably in auto no-flash mode. hand-held. jpeg-fine, large, processed by d40.--skoch3 07:24, 3 july 2007 (utc)",

"description": "Most of the specimens are from Washington, Oregon, and elsewhere in western North America, but many have been acquired from other parts of the world through collecting and exchange. Specimens are being continually acquired by the museum, and the collections are growing by 1-2%/year. Many skeletons of birds and mammals have been prepared to accompany the more traditional skin collections. Especially noteworthy are the largest collections of herps and bird eggs in the Northwest and, until very recently, the largest collection of mammals in the Northwest. The bird wing collection is also of special significance, as a fifth of the bird specimens in the collection have been prepared since 1990 and thus have associated wings. Because it contains series of many species of vertebrates from throughout western North America, the Slater is an excellent source of material for the study of geographic variation.",
