"dwc:locationRemarks": "Substrate = cobble, gravel. Sampled 600 ft. upstream of the bridge, beginning at the bridge. No seine used. All rocks covered with silts; new deadfalls, blowouts and bank sloughing along the left bank; mid-channel pool at the end of the reach; no well-defined riffles, primarily runs; infrequent riffles due to the high flows; riparian zones surrounded by row crops (corn and cabbage) and fields (fallow and with hay). High flows and turbid, but could still see the fish; afternoon thunderstorms increased the turbidity. HSTW; one stocked Rainbow Trout (235 mm TL) and one Brown Trout (188 mm TL) collected. A 440 mm TL Smallmouth Bass was collected; overall, fewer fish than in 2006. Young-of-Year = Bluehead Chub, Largemouth Bass, and Creek Chub. New distribution records for Central Stoneroller and Striped jumprock.",

"description": "The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' Ichthyology Collection contains approximately 1.3 million specimens (110,000+ lots). It is one of the largest and most complete regional collections in the United States and currently meets the criteria of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists for recognition as a National Center Ichthyological Collection. Founded in the late 1800s, the collection consists of approximately 75% North Carolina material, although 48 states, 42 countries, and more than 1948 species are represented. Important recent acquisitions include large collections from Duke, North Carolina State, Stockton State, and Western Carolina universities, Mars Hill College, and the University of North Carolina’s Institute of Marine Sciences. The collection houses fluid-preserved specimens, cleared and stained material, skeletons, tissues for molecular analyses, and all supporting legacy data.",
