Lvs. linear, 10-15 mm. long, 1-2 mm wide, exstipulate, alternate, strigose above and below. Fls. solitary in the axils, perhaps later forming leafy-bracted cymes. Calyx 4.5 mm long, but with 1 sepal 5.5 mm., the 4 linear hirsute- or hispid-strigose sepals distinct nearly or quite to the base. Corolla 8.5 mm long, purple, the tube exceeding the shorter sepals. Stamens 4, attached near the base of the corolla tube, alternate with the lobes. Anthers extrorse, versatile, opening by longitudinal clefts. Ovary on a disk, 1-celled with 2 parietal placentae, many seeded. Style 2, separate to the base, 2 mm. long, included, somewhat flattened. Stigma capitate, unlobed, but longer than wide. Corolla 5-lobed, probably 2-lipped",
