Darkening to olive brown (8 D&) with age. caps bruise dark blue when touched, the bruises later darkening to deep red or black. fibrillose appressed surface texture. round, to 10 cm in diameter when mature. deeply convex. Young caps, with their margins tightly clasping stipes, are nearly globose. context 8mm to 4 cm deep. pale yellow, staining blue upon exposure to the air. Spongy and solid.",

Rich in new collections from Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Newfoundland and Labrador, Columbia, South Africa and the United States.
