Forest understory open to scrubby, with Amelanchier sp, Cercocarpus montanus, Juniperus communis, J. scopulorum, Rhus aromatica, Ribus aureum, and Toxicodendron rydbergii variously common on slopes; and Acer negundo and Quercus macrocarpa common in ravines. Soil rocky with granitic and limestone rocks, plus scattered boulders of Deadwood Formation sandstone and metamorphics.",
