"dwc:locationRemarks": "Shocker time: 4514; Substrate = gravel, cobble, bedrock. Sampled 600 ft. downstream, beginning ca. 50 ft. below bridge and going downstream. No seine used, green nets used for sampling the good riffles. Side snags and large deadfalls along the margins; runs; boulder outcrops on the right and crevices; riffles, pools; deep water snags; red clay banks; entrenched. Stream appearance is much different than in 2003; more bank erosion, narrow riparian zone on the right (looking downstream); stream gets up into the floodplain and the stream did not go dry in the 2007 or 2008 drought (landowner comments). Carolina Slate Belt stream. Crayfish abundant. One Oriental Weatherfish, Misgurnus anguillicaudata, 148 mm TL, collected. Site is ca. 1.2 miles above the creek's confluence with the Haw River.",

"description": "The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' Ichthyology Collection contains approximately 1.3 million specimens (110,000+ lots). It is one of the largest and most complete regional collections in the United States and currently meets the criteria of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists for recognition as a National Center Ichthyological Collection. Founded in the late 1800s, the collection consists of approximately 75% North Carolina material, although 48 states, 42 countries, and more than 1948 species are represented. Important recent acquisitions include large collections from Duke, North Carolina State, Stockton State, and Western Carolina universities, Mars Hill College, and the University of North Carolina’s Institute of Marine Sciences. The collection houses fluid-preserved specimens, cleared and stained material, skeletons, tissues for molecular analyses, and all supporting legacy data.",
