The U.S. National Science Foundation and iDigBio are required to collect information on use of digitized collections-based specimen data. Please help us meet this requirement every time you use this search portal. Sustainability of the national digitization effort depends on evidence of data use! Maybe later.

Naturalis Biodiversity Center (NL) - Mammalia

Specimen Records: 67,885
Media Records: 40,469
iDigBio Last Ingested Date: 2023-01-25

Database contains specimen records from the Mammalia collection of the Naturalis Biodiversity Center (Leiden, Netherlands). The zoological specimens come from the National Museum of Natural History (RMNH; Rijksmuseum voor Natuurlijke Historie), later National Museum of Natural History, Naturalis in Leiden and the Zoological Museum Amsterdam (ZMA) and new acquisitions. This database replaces the dataset "Zoological Museum Amsterdam, University of Amsterdam (NL) – Mammalia" which was hosted earlier on the GBIF dataportal and contains many new and updated records, especially from the RMNH collection. The old registration numbers of the former institutions (RMNH, ZMA) are also mentioned in the dataset.
