"dwc:fieldNotes": "NOTEBY J. Longino, NOTEDATE 20-Nov-95: Azteca constructor nest in Cecropia obtusifolia. A couple of weeks ago a large C. obtusifolia tree was cut down behind the comedor. It contained a strong colony of A. constructor. I dragged the main bole sections containing the carton nest over to a clear area and left them for several days. I put them in a plastic bag and transferred them to a freezer. Ronald Vargas later dissected the nest. There were alate queens and workers in the carton nest. He collected numerous mites of interest to Evert Lindquist. I examined a section prior to freezing. The knollen were filled with nematoceran (?) (definitely Diptera) larvae. The mites were scattered on the knollen. Evert suggests that the mites could be predators on the Diptera. On dissection, Ronald found a tiny dung beetle in one of the knollen. The beetle was alive, suggesting it was a contaminant, discovering the knollen after the nest was removed from the freezer.",
